Polyglots Academy Inc. was originally founded as The Emerging Little Linguists Academy in Minnesota in 2011. What began as a passionate response to a group of concerned parents turned into a full-fledged educational movement. After the Pre-K program at the founder’s former school was closed due to funding cuts, several families urged Mrs. Haywood to continue educating their children. She agreed to offer a summer program for students entering kindergarten—and infused it with her personal love for language.
That first summer, 20 students were enrolled. When it ended, parents asked her to continue into the school year. With community backing and a signed petition, she launched a Pre-K–2nd grade school. Despite an unexpected low turnout on opening day, she committed to teaching the three children who did arrive with excellence and heart.
From that foundation of faith and determination, the school grew rapidly. Within a month, enrollment increased to 30 students. As the school relocated and adjusted over the years, interest continued to climb: summer programs reached as many as 80 students, and school-year sessions consistently served dozens of families—despite frequent challenges with staffing and facilities.
Today, Polyglots Academy has expanded to serve students from PreK through 12th grade. Its programs promote multilingualism, literacy, and cultural understanding through language education and S.T.E.A.M. enrichment. Languages taught include English, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese, French, and many more.
What has remained constant since the beginning is the belief that every child can learn a new language and deserves access to high-quality, culturally rich instruction. Polyglots Academy continues to grow, uplift, and inspire learners through literacy, languages, and love.
